Age-structured non-pharmaceutical interventions for optimal control of COVID-19 epidemic

چکیده
In an epidemic, individuals can widely differ in the way they spread infection depending on their age or number of days have been infected for. absence pharmaceutical interventions such as a vaccine treatment, non-pharmaceutical ( e.g . physical social distancing) are essential to mitigate pandemic. We develop original approach identify optimal age-stratified control strategy implement function time since onset epidemic. This is based model with double continuous structure terms host and infection. By applying theory this model, we solution that minimizes deaths costs associated implementation itself. also for three countries contrasted distributions (Burkina-Faso, France, Vietnam). Overall, varies throughout more intense early on, age, stronger older population, except scenario where cost low. latter scenario, find strong differences across because extends younger population France Vietnam 2 3 months after but not Burkina Faso. Finally, show strongly outperforms constant uniform exerted over whole its fraction. improved understanding effect age-based opens new perspectives field, especially contact tracing.

An optimal control theory approach to non-pharmaceutical interventions
BACKGROUND Non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPI) are the first line of defense against pandemic influenza. These interventions dampen virus spread by reducing contact between infected and susceptible persons. Because they curtail essential societal activities, they must be applied judiciously. Optimal control theory is an approach for modeling and balancing competing objectives such as epidemi...
متن کاملAge-structured optimal control in population economics.
This paper brings both intertemporal and age-dependent features to a theory of population policy at the macro-level. A Lotka-type renewal model of population dynamics is combined with a Solow/Ramsey economy. We consider a social planner who maximizes an aggregate intertemporal utility function which depends on per capita consumption. As control policies we consider migration and saving rate (bo...
متن کاملSolution Methods for Age-Structured Optimal Control Models with Feedback
Modeling the dynamics of infectious diseases, illicit drug initiation, or other systems, where the age of an individual or the duration of being in a specific state is essential, leads to a generalized form of the McKendrick equations, i.e., a system of first-order partial differential equations in the time-age space. Typically such models include agespecific feedback components which are repre...
متن کاملChallenges of Iranian Environmental Health during the COVID-19 Epidemic: Lessons for the Future
Emerging and communicable infectious diseases are one of the major public health challenges that adherence to the principles of primary health care can prevent the rising of morbidity and mortality in communities. This study investigates the environmental health challenges of Iran in Covid-19 epidemic as an emerging infectious disease. Insufficient readiness of the health system, delays in qua...
متن کاملOptimal control of an age-structured model of HIV infection
We investigate the optimal treatment strategies with an age-structured model of HIV infection. The age-structured model allows for variations in the virion production rate and the death rate of infected T cells as a function of age, which is the length of time since infection. We derive the optimal therapy protocols by formulating and analyzing an optimal control problem and establish the exist...
